Summer adventures of the Gorski Paroščić

Day 1:

  • depart for Fužine from outside school in the morning.
  • arrive in Fužine; allocation of rooms & settling in.
  • familiarisation with the story of the Gorski Paroščić sprite.
  • lunch
  • afternoon sightseeing trip around Fužine, followed by a walk around the Bajer and Lepenica lakes (including the story of the three lakes). The chance to go on a tour around the lakes by boat, tourist train or horse-drawn carriage.
  • evening meal
  • disco, with the coronation of the fairy king and queen of the Gorski region who will be entrusted with the secret seal of the Gorski Paroščić sprite. This gives children the task of finding hidden items scattered outside the lodge using clues during the next three days. Each will get a map to help guide them to the hidden treasure. Once found, all the items of treasure fit together to form a riddle for children to solve on Day 4. The winners are then announced.
  • evening entertainment – Gorski style!

Day 2:

  • breakfast.
  • trip to the Risnjak National Park, which contains flora and fauna unique to this area of Europe. A guided walk along the Leska mountain trail
  • continue from Risnjak National Park to the village of Skrad.
  • sightseeing tour of Skrad, including the old Munjara hydroelectric power plant, the Zeleni Vir (Green Whirlpool) spring and Vražji Prolaz canyon (Devil’s Pass).
  • return to Fužinarska Lodge for lunch.
  • in the afternoon guests are free to participate in a tournament of traditional games organised at a neighbouring sports ground, including sack races, a tug of war and a treasure hunt (part 1).
  • evening meal.
  • disco (fashion parade).

Day 3:

  • breakfast, followed by a trip to the Vrelo Cave, story about the fairies of the Gorski region.
  • continue to the village of Lokve, with a sightseeing tour of the Lokvarsko Lake, Lokvarska Cave and the Golubinjak Forest Park.
  • return to Fužinarska Lodge for lunch.
  • afternoon lesson about the plant and animal kingdoms of the Gorski region, herbs with medicinal properties, orienteering, caring for the environment around us; drawing and painting workshop.
  • treasure hunt (part 2).
  • dinner.
  • karaoke evening.

Day 4:

  • breakfast.
  • trip to Rijeka. A sightseeing tour of the Trsat-area of the city and Franciscan monastery and church. A walk around the centre of Rijeka taking in St Vitus’s Cathedral and the main Korzo promenade.
  • return to Fužinarska Lodge for lunch.
  • trip to the Jelenko fallow deer reserve in Lič, near Delnice. Includes educational activities centred round the protection of wildlife and the natural environment.
  • return to Fužinarska Lodge where the treasure hunt reaches its finale.
  • evening meal.
  • Gorski-style outdoor party with a bonfire, interspersed with songs.

Day 5:

  • breakfast.
  • vacate rooms.
  • trip to Ogulin, birthplace of Ivana Brlić Mažuranić (renowned Croatian writer for children).
  • sightseeing tour of the town, including Đula’s Abyss, and a visit to “Ivana’s House of Fairytales”, a newly-opened multimedia museum dedicated to children’s author Ivana Brlić Mažuranić.
